Princeton Studies Food is an umbrella organization at the University for those who use food as a lens of academic exploration, of cultural connection, of connection to the environment and for those whose focus is on questions related to food and its related systems. Its founding members seek to connect and leverage the strengths of the University – humanities, science, engineering, architecture and policy – and the broader community to address the most urgent question facing humanity today: How do we ensure plenty of good, affordable food for everyone while restoring and preserving our earth, and retaining the joy that food in all its myriad roles brings to life?

The ultimate aim is a permanent food systems studies program, that is, in the words of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor ’76, “in the nation’s service, and in the service of all nations, and in the service of humanity, one person and one act at a time.”

FUTURE OF FOOD

How do we improve our health, prevent disease, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, safeguard our fresh water and our oceans, preserve biodiversity, protect jobs and conserve finite resources while producing sufficient food for the world's burgeoning population?

Princeton Studies Food builds upon the interest and expertise among faculty, alumni, students, and staff of Princeton University to provide solutions to these critical food-related challenges. Princeton brings to the table its undeniable strength as a major research university that emphasizes teaching and cross-departmental collaboration and benefits from extraordinary alumni involvement.
